Birthday Party Tonight!
Looking back? No way!
Dear Fringe related thing, today’s our birthday! Ten years ago to the day we started the Amsterdam Fringe Festival in the toilets of the Stadsschouwburg. It was the beginning of a tradition which has held firm and gained a following all over the world. Today, one can see penises and hear strange conversations in toilets everywhere. We’ll be celebrating our party with Wilhelmina Huiskamerfestival, the other coolest festival in Amsterdam, which also has its ten year anniversary today!
Our first gift of the day was from NRC Handelsblad: a four-ball review in today’s paper! Have you got balls to spare? Bring ‘em by at The Fringe Theatre!
Seriously now: we don’t need you to bring any presents to our party tonight. The Fringe already is a 15 foot high stack of gifts, with a tiny little pink Christmas tree on the top. Every year, you, us, and everyone we know is unwrapping gifts like crazy. Most of them don’t make sense and none are really useful, but they’re such great fun!
The extra special gift from everyone to everyone is a party! (Obviously…) We’ll be giving you DJ Faffi, and you’ll give him your endless love. We’ll put some nice discount on something from the bar (check out those signs!), and you’ll overdo it just a bit with the drinking. We’ll build a shadow economy of giving, giving, giving, until we’re all loaded with stuff and head home.
Deal? We’ll see you tonight at The Fringe Theatre, Jacob van Lennepkade 334! O, and when you wake up tomorrow morning slightly melancholy and nostalgic, please do get out of bed and get moving! We’ll have four more days of Fringe to go, so there’s no use at all in looking back. Onwards and upwards!
