In a minimalistic setting with nothing more than a bar chair and a few slides on a projecting screen, a piano and a one man orchestra behind it, Violetta Lazin tells a personal story of a never officially-declared refugee – herself. How fleeing takes the ground under your feet literally and figuratively speaking, while it opens doors to new perspectives and possibilities.
Presented as a one woman’s journey through Europe and through life, it rings universally true as a reminder that not all refugees are coming to invade someone-else’s country. In the dawn of the biggest population migration since 2nd World War most people are afraid, or at least weary, of the newcomers “invading” their streets, their jobs, their homes and their hearts.
“My Name is: Woman” speaks of the other side of that coin: showing obstacles we need to overcome, made more challenging by new language and new culture. Given time and opportunity, we become a valuable asset to the society we live in, proud of our new country and happy to make it proud of us, advocating love, peace and unity through words spoken and sung in many different genres of music and therefore more available to different audiences.
“My Name is: Woman” is the first individual production of ARTax Music, an ambitious young music-theatre company presenting modern/contemporary (vocal) classical music under the artistic leadership of Violetta Lazin and Gianmaria Griglio. Their mission is to stimulate, celebrate and enhance the understanding of ourselves and others through the shared experience of live theatre. ARTax believes that Contemporary Classic Music Theater and opera in general is a creative form that combines all the arts and draws on the cultural traditions and talent of nations from around the world. With the human voice as the central instrument, it is both the most natural and the richest reflection of the multi-media, global community of the 21st century.
