Kirsty Baker

Location: Plein Theater

Dates:

duration of the performance: 50 min

A one-woman tea party full of songs, attempted dance and too much talkingand you’re all very much invited. As she talks and sings incessantly into her microphone, Kirsty Baker celebrates the pleasure and importance of coming together, here and now in the same room, with all the insecurities and questions that might come from getting so close to one another.

Spontaneity, sincerity, occasional chaos, a huge amount of joy and a good cup of tea guide Kirsty Baker and the audience through BASELINE BABBLING as they get to feel how fundamentally they need each other and how good it can feel to unapologetically be yourself.

Biography

Kirsty Baker was born and raised in France in an ‘oh-so‘ British family of poets and musicians. Her path in theater and music began as a child when she was thrown into her parents‘ musical shows and as she later asked if she could play the violin.

Through her teenage years she experimented with collective theater making, learned folk tunes in Romania and joined butô workshops andworld music” bands. As a young adult, she immersed herself in contemporary dance and joined a site-specific theater collective in Bordeaux (FR).

All this led her to the Mime School in Amsterdam (NL) from which she graduated in 2023. It’s with this lifelong experience in the performing arts that she now develops her own practice as a solo artist and works for a variety of theater and mime companies in the Netherlands.
