“Call me Lole” is a Flamenco performance that merges the two disciplines of flamenco and contemporary dance into a hybrid body that chooses to move away from the engrained within the flamenco tradition. This performance doesn’t reject, but seeks to reinvent flamenco. To free themselves from roles, codes, and norms. Creating a space for flamenco to evolve, while taking care of its traditional charm.
“Who is Flamenco?”
“It is not flamingo, it is Flamenco”.
No longer a theme, Flamenco goes by they/them now. And got lost trying to reinvent themselves.
Flamenco steps outside, doesn’t look back. They put on the boots, take off the pearls, and throw the rose away. Today Flamenco won’t cry. Today flamenco is not red. Flamenco walks bold and topless out of their coffin. Stepping off the wooden floor. Today Flamenco strips down the roles, unchains the forms, they grow rebellious and take the lead.
Free, fluid, unapologetic.
Ignacio Sanz Fernández is a Spanish dancer and creator whose career bridges the traditional roots of flamenco and the innovative realms of contemporary dance. From an early age, he showed a deep connection to the performing arts, beginning his studies in Spanish dance and flamenco at the age of four, building a strong foundation in the cultural traditions of his homeland.
At 18, driven by artistic curiosity and a desire to broaden his movement vocabulary, Ignacio shifted his focus to modern and contemporary dance. For four years, he trained at Danza 180, a prestigious private school in Madrid, where he honed his technique and explored the creative possibilities that would shape his identity as both a performer and creator.
In the final year of his studies, Ignacio began his professional journey, collaborating on various projects in Spain and the Netherlands. His work spans roles as a performer, creator, and movement director for contemporary dance productions, as well as choreography and direction for advertising campaigns. These experiences have enriched his artistic approach, blending the emotional intensity of flamenco with the freedom and fluidity of contemporary dance.
With a deeply personal artistic vision, Ignacio continues to explore new forms of expression through movement, challenging traditional conventions and connecting with diverse audiences. His work stands out for its integration of technique, emotion, and the constant search for identity through the body.
