duration of the performance: 45 min
When I was born, I was already in drag. As a vibrant drag king, I dance enthusiastically through life, searching for my people. But who is my community, really? Am I alone?
This is an invitation for everyone to let out your inner freak and come dance together in Club Trouw in 2010.
This is the beginning of a performance where dance, drag, and personal stories come together. Come Unity is a journey that seeks to shed new light on the concept of community in a quest to discover what we have in common with each other.
It is an invitation to explore the boundaries of connection and self-expression—together with the audience. In this theatrical experience, Lana guides the audience on a search for acceptance, understanding, and beyond. Through explosive dance, extravagant drag costumes, and a candid approach to vulnerability, connection is not just talked about—it’s truly felt.
Lana van der Brug (she/they) is an artistic creator, choreographer, dancer, and drag performer based in Amsterdam. From a young age, she performed in self-choreographed productions and won third prize at Kunstbende at seventeen.
After graduating from Balance 1 Dance Academy in Berlin, she focused on developing her own improvisational language—forming, along with the theme of drag, the core of her artistic work. In 2021, she joined The House of Løst Bois, who were named Best House at Superball 2023 and received the Knights of the Night certificate from Amsterdam’s Night Mayor Freek Wallagh.
As a drag performer, Lana has graced a wide range of stages—from local cafés in Delft to major events like Mysteryland, Milkshake, DTRH, and ADE. Most notably, she performs at Club Church in Amsterdam, where her drag persona was born. Her work has been presented in diverse contexts including Café Theater Festival, Boring Festival, Brotfabrik-Berlin (DE), Sonsbeek Theater Avenue Festival, De Nieuwe Anita, Pleintheater, and Culturele Zondagen Utrecht.
She has continued to develop her artistic practice through national (Triplet Studio, Production House NOWHERE) and international (Theater in Palm) residencies, and has participated in a collaborative research project on queer feedback in theatre, by IPOP.
