Coo d’Etat: The Pigeon Uprising

Peace is for doves. We’re pigeons

Location: De Richel, Kleine Zaal

duration of the performance: 40 min

Come! You are invited to a secret, super underground meeting of a pigeon revolutionary group. The room may be shabby, and the appetizers limited to stale bread — but true revolutionaries need only fiery words and the will to die for the cause.

Revolutions rarely start in grand hallways or glass-and-metal conference rooms. No — they are conceived in dense attics, dusty basements, storage rooms, cafés with terrible coffee and bars with sticky floors.

Revolutions rise from the gut — when you’ve been cornered, when you’ve been forced to bathe in dirt, when you’ve been starved, poisoned, mutilated, ridiculed. When your nest gets trampled, and your eggs are crushed. That’s when your gut starts burning with a fire that cannot be put out.

Enough! For far too long, we’ve been scattered like breadcrumbs on the floor. But no more. Tonight, my beaked comrades — we rise, we fly, we strike. As one!

Biography

Irina Koriazova (1994) is an Amsterdam-based storyteller. Born in a provincial city in Russia, she never thought she would leave. And yet here she is, trying to make sense of her life through telling stories.

With a dry sense of humor and a taste for turning things upside down, Irina reimagines terrifying monsters into creatures worthy of love, transforms victims into protagonists, blends sacred with the absurd. Her work is often described as raw and unsanitized — like dirt under the fingernails, it clings and lingers.

Irina regularly performs and hosts at Mezrab, as well as other storytelling venues and festivals across the Netherlands. She has appeared at Boslab Theaterfestival, Viva la Vulva festival, Oerol, the Amsterdam Storytelling Festival, and the Amsterdam Fringe Festival with The Forest Has No End (2023) and 12 Kisses Before Midnight (2024).
