Mermaids is a solo aerial acrobatics performance inspired by fantastic elements typical of children’s fairy tales to explore the construction of feminine identity and the passage from childhood to adulthood. The show takes place in a room where old objects come to life, initiating a dreamlike journey that oscillates between dream and nightmare.
The experimentation with tactile materials, the aerial acrobatics language, and the search for an asymmetrical, soft, and contorted body generate visual metaphors that weave the link between the physical and the symbolic, transforming body and space.
What does it mean to be soft? A soft body is a body that overflows, that exceeds limits, contorted, spilled, exploring movement qualities such as torsion, falling, and imbalance. Between the comic and the poetic, the performance portrays the loss of childhood, highlighting fragility and sweetness.
Biography
Chilean-Croatian artist, born in Chile in 1996. She began practicing aerial silks and dance at the age of 16, later training professionally at the “Circ de les Arts” circus and dance school in Argentina. She continued her studies at the FLIC circus school in Italy (2015–2017) and at the Academy of Circus and Performance Arts (ACAPA) (2021), specializing in aerial rope and aerial straps.
Interested in theater, she later joined the professional experimental theater program at Teatre Laboratori in Barcelona (2022). With the project Mermaids, she joined the FOCON formalization program at Esacto Lido in Toulouse (2023/2024).
She has developed her work as the author of short pieces presented at festivals in Chile and Europe, including Festival Amalgama, Festival Utopia, and Escena Circo. She has also worked as a performer with companies such as Theater Tol, Circo Patagonia, and Cia. Appesa in the contemporary circus creation L(i)en.
Between 2023 and 2026, she has developed her authorial work with Mermaids, presenting extracts at CC Can Clariana, CC La Lleialtat Santsenca, La Volière, La Central del Circ, Ateneu Popular Nou Barris, Esacto Lido, Days of Panama at Panama Pictures, Zirkusquartier, Les Noctambules, and Teatro Café de las Artes.
