Fringe Academy

This year, a new team has started the Fringe Academy, again being responsible for the entire program development and production of the talent stage of Amsterdam Fringe Festival at the Uitmarkt. From all corners of the land and from different backgrounds a new generation of Fringers have come together. Imke Zeinstra, Martijn Peetoom, Nina Bos and Taam Maas look forward to execute the challenge. This year the Uitmarkt has returned from the Oosterdok to the well-known location of the Museumplein. With this change, the stage has been renamed as well and will continue under the title Fringe X Uitmarkt. The program will mainly consist out of new makers selected by the team of the Fringe Academy. Furthermore, it will host a selection of previews of performances which will be part of the Amsterdam Fringe Festival. Expect experiments and a wild collection of theatrical and musical ludicracy, brought together in a experience you won’t quickly forget.

Imke Zeinstra (1992) is a performance artist at heart. She is currently living in Rotterdam. Four years ago she completed the Autonomous Visual Arts study at the AKV | St. Joost in Breda. In the years following, she mainly focused on developing her autonomous practice both on a national and an international level. In her work she uses the absurd as a method to create messages that bypass rationality and cut directly to the unconscious thought, something that will certainly be reflected in the program of Fringe X Uitmarkt.

Martijn Peetoom (1996) has just finished his bachelor’s degree and with Fringe he is looking to explore and expand his event organizing skills the coming year. In the past years, Martijn has produced and organized multiple events for the UvA and several other cultural institutes. Fringe Academy offers the ideal internship as program development is combined with Martijn’s broad interest in theater- and performance arts. The Academy offers Martijn freedom and responsibility additional to the many learning possibilities related to all the aspects of event development.

Nina Bos (1995) is currently finishing her Master Contemporary Theatre, Dance and Dramaturgy at Utrecht University and is excited to start the Fringe Academy. She has gained some experience in organizing and developing cultural events for students in Utrecht and hopes to further develop her theoretical and academical knowledge within the academy. Developing an idea into a mini-festival together with a small, young and dedicated team, appeals to her. She gets enthusiastic about the edges and rawness that Fringe has to offer and is excited to roam these fringes the forthcoming period.

Taam Maas (1993) lives for new ideas, good stories, and cultural innovation. With a background in Interdisciplinary Arts he’s been trained to combine arts and creativity with science and entrepreneurship, functioning as a connector to bring these different worlds closer to each other but especially closer to society. With a varied interest in the arts and societal topics, ranging from personal mentality to technology & media theory, he strives to have a seat at every table. With Amsterdam Fringe Festival he hopes to expand his professional network and project experience to continue his development as a cultural entrepreneur.
