SYNCDORST is a theatrerave about dancing insync in a world falling apart.
Godelieve Meijers
SYNCDORST is a theatrerave: through dance, animated visuals, text and techno, we search for what it means to be in sync on the dance floor. We zoom in on the body and out to the world around us. We dance to come together in a time when everything seems to be falling apart. SYNCDORST explores dance as revolution and antidote: “The privatization of stress has been one of capitalism’s most successful achievements.” – Mark Fisher
‘We come together
to move
to dance
to sweat
to celebrate
to live.’
Godelieve Meijers is a theatre maker working at the intersection of theatre, rave culture and multidisciplinary performance. She studied at ArtEZ and has since developed a practice in which spatial dramaturgy, audience positioning and different disciplines come together.
“I consciously choose places such as clubs, creative hubs, festivals and squats; places where the audience naturally becomes part of what is happening. Because it is written into the coding of the space. Your body already knows.”
In her work, the audience does not stand opposite the performance, but right in the middle of it. Through the setting, rhythm and energy of the space, an experience emerges in which watching, listening and being present begin to merge.
“For me, theatre is a sensory experience in which encounter and experiment are given space.”
She is currently connected as a maker to BACKSTAGE Maaspoort and Nieuwe Helden Next Level.
