Everybody is always six handshakes away from Paris Hilton’s coke dealer

Sexy text-based theatre about hedonism, ambition, and a handshake with divine fame.

Tijn Hoekzema & Megan de Kruijf

Location: Theater Bellevue, Klein Bellevue

Dates:

duration of the performance: 40 min

Sunny and Mano are waiting for Paris Hilton’s coke dealer. How long they have been waiting and how long the wait will be is unclear. Whilst they wait, they try to convince themselves and each other that it will all be worth it. They talk about their ambition, their dreams and how this handshake will be their final step towards something bigger: A life full of success and fulfillment. As the time passes the impatience starts to creep in. Their stories become hard to follow and doubts start to set in.

This show is a moment in time in which the contractions between hope and desperation surface. The moment right before the handshake, the moment right before it might all happen for them.

‘cause even though the gods are crazy even though the stars are blind you show me real love baby, and i’ll show you mine’ – Paris Hilton 2006

Biography

Tijn and Megan met at the institute of performative arts in Maastricht. From the very first project they were put together. Even more indicative of their partnership is the fact that in their last year, they even lived together. They spent hours watching documentaries, drinking tea, smoking cigarettes and talking about the idea that they were only six handshakes away from Paris Hilton’s coke dealer.

Tijn Hoekzema (Die/Diens) graduated from the acting program and has found a practice in connecting the classical theater craft with modern popular media.

Megan de Kruijf (Zij/Haar) graduated from the performance program and combines her career in theater, film and TV with her music career. Megan loves text, lots of text. And intense characters with a good heart. Just like Megan loves intense people with a good heart.

It is often said that no one goes to the theater anymore. That is why Tijn and Megan want to make theater sexy and dangerous again. They don’t do that by just blasting a techno beat, but by challenging each other cognitively and especially by making each other laugh.
