DIRECTOR AMSTERDAM FRINGE FESTIVAL AUKJE VERHOOG LEAVES ON 1 OCTOBER
Fringe Director Aukje Verhoog is leaving the festival after five editions. This means that the coming festival is the last one she will lead. In recent years, Amsterdam Fringe has been further professionalized and has grown into a leading festival for young, experimental makers from The Netherlands and abroad.
Aukje Verhoog, who started as a volunteer at the festival in 2011 and became Fringe Director in 2017, looks back on an intense, pleasant and educational time at the festival. After her departure, she will focus on her freelance practice as a dramaturge, curator and teacher.
Verhoog: “I owe a lot to this festival and I am proud of what my team and I have been able to do for young artists who do not shy away from experimenting. It is great that we have received so much support from partners, venues and subsidiaries, who dared to make all those out-of-the-box plans possible with us. Now that we, as Stichting De Theaterdagen, have received support for the next four years with Fringe, NTF, NTF Young and NTF Pro, this is a good time to hand over my tasks to a successor. I’m looking forward to one organize one more amazing edition with the makers, the team and the audience. ”
Amsterdam Fringe Festival, together with the Dutch Theater Festival, is part of the Theater Days Foundation. Director Jeffrey Meulman: “The most rebellious festival in the Netherlands has matured under Aukje’s inspiring leadership. And fortunately it hasn’t lost it’s rebellious character. Aukje built a solid festival organization around the Fringe and at the same time stood for a sharp, hyper-current programming, resulting in fantastic reviews. Her involvement with artists is impressive, just like her drive for action. Standing in the breach for young artists is a strength that not many people have, but Aukje does. That has not gone unnoticed and we are very grateful to her for it.”
The organization is now preparing for a new edition of the Amsterdam Fringe Festival, which will take place from Thursday 2 to Sunday 12 September 2021. Aukje Verhoog will hand over her tasks on 1 October. The vacancy for her successor will be posted on this website at the beginning of June.
