duration of the performance: 30 min
A hushed yet thrilling meditation of movement that blends circus with performance art.
‘Sustained’ is an intimate and tender exploration of subjective experience that takes shape in an endurance of aerial suspension. In this space, everything hangs in the air. Even time is suspended.
In a constant balancing act of control and vulnerability, the desire to keep moving merges with a desire to stand still.
This performance creates an expansive feeling of time and space collectively, by inviting audiences to zoom in to detail. In this state, the elusive transforms into something palpable, the defined starts to become abstract, and spectacle is revealed through sheer attention to detail.
‘Sustained’ questions how we perceive the world around us. By bridging the gap between our immediate experiences and our wider surroundings, can we make this often-fragmented relationship feel more tangible?
“To see takes time.”- Georgia O’Keeffe

Alice Davies (London, 1999) is a trapeze artist with a background in music, fine arts, writing and acting. She discovered circus arts at the age of eight. Alice spent two years at Carampa Circus School (Madrid) before taking a bachelor at Fontys Academy for Circus and Performance Art in Tilburg, where her company is now based.
In her work as a solo performance maker, Alice explores mimesis in circus art with a focus on subjective/objective conflicts, inspired by empiricism and Impressionism. Alice has been researching sustainability in circus practices for the past three years, tackling themes such as mental and physical health, and visibility and representation on stage. She attempts to redefine classical ideologies of circus spectacle using intimacy, attention to detail, and taking time.
Alice is an associated artist of Panama Pictures (Den Bosch).
She was recognised for her solo work with the BNG Bank circus prize in October 2024.
