Two women struggle under the pressure of societal norms, only to properly explode afterwards

Audrey Apers

Location: Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond, Grote Zaal

duration of the performance: 1 h

Vulcanize me is an absurd quest of two women trying to break free from a seemingly stuck situation. They search for a system where there is room to explode. A space where bodies rebel, where untamable women, mother goddesses and biker babes rule. Their words can sometimes be incoherent and erratic. They refuse to surrender to a prevailing morality, which delights in going under or being swept away. Like little craters, they open up new possibilities….

An explosive theatrical performance in which rasping vocals and expressive physicality clash.

Audrey Apers (1991, Belgian) studied at the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp and then obtained her bachelor’s degree in Modern Theater Dance at the Amsterdam School of the Arts.
From 2013 to 2017 she danced with SALLY Dansgezelschap Maastricht, LeineRoebana Amsterdam, Arno Schuitemaker and Romeo Castellucci. For the period 2018-2020 she was artist in residence at SALLY Dance Company Maastricht’s Dance Lab program for young artistic development. During her master’s program, Audrey created the performance Gravity is a Regime. She was both director and performer in this work which playfully attempts to question the absoluteness of gravity and other seemingly immutable structures. Since graduating, Audrey has also been active as a performer and dramaturge in the work of others. Meanwhile, she continues to work on a new production “Under Your Spell” that will premiere in 2025.
